Ten green flags hanging on the wall at Rushcliffe Country Park
21 July 2016
Rushcliffe Country Park in Ruddington is celebrating today (21 July) after being awarded its tenth Green Flag in a row.
The Green Flag award, run by Keep Britain Tidy, recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country. The accolade proves that the Park is well-maintained and well-managed and has excellent facilities.
Rushcliffe Country Park is one of a record-breaking 1,686 parks and green spaces receiving this prestigious award this year, ensuring that even more people have access to well-managed, high-quality outdoor areas that are so important for health and leisure activities.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s park rangers and the volunteer ‘Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park’ group are over the moon to have won a tenth consecutive award.
Judges said that the Park has some really creative, ground breaking features and facilities, and that it is very well used. They were also impressed by the enthusiasm and creativity of the ‘Friends’ group and how they work with the Council’s ranger team to improve and manage the site.
Councillor John Cottee, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at Rushcliffe Borough Council said:
“We already know that the park is marvellous – it’s home to a wonderful play area, a dog activity trail, parkrun and junior parkrun, areas of biodiversity interest and lots more – but it’s great that that’s been recognised for the tenth year in a row. With the hard work of the ranger team and the Friends of Rushcliffe Country Park group, the Park continues to evolve and improve year on year.”
The public love the Park too – it has over 230 reviews on Trip Advisor with an average rating of 4.5 out five, and it was awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence this year too.
All Green Flag 2016 winners, which can be found at www.greenflagaward.co.uk will be raising their flags throughout the week and celebrating their success during Love Parks Week, which runs from 21 to 29 July.
