Rushcliffe acknowledged for supporting employment opportunities for Armed Forces
8 January 2018
Rushcliffe Borough Council has received an award for showing its support as an employer to those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces.
The Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) has given a bronze accolade to the authority for its commitment to the initiative.
It recognises the Council is aware of the variety of transferable skills reservists, veterans and current personnel can bring to the civilian workplace developed throughout their military careers and that it has aligned its values in line with the Armed Forces Covenant.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Communities and Deputy Leader Cllr Debbie Mason said: “We’re proud to have this acknowledgement which highlights our commitment to exploring what those who serve in the forces can bring to our organisation.
“The skills, aptitudes and values many learn in the military can make them perfect candidates for roles in any sector but given the public element of the services we provide they may be well placed to fill roles with us.
“We will actively look for suitable candidates from military backgrounds when considering our vacancies and look to build on this with application for the silver award from the ERS later this year.”
Public and private sector organisations wishing to show similar support for the initiative should visit www.armedforcescovenant.gov.uk
Current or former armed forces personnel residing in Rushcliffe are also being asked for their views on understanding the needs of the Armed Forces community and what may help to develop future military support and events.
