YouNG entrepreneurs’ business skills celebrated

9 February 2018

Young entrepreneurs from across Rushcliffe have celebrated their achievements over the last year at an awards ceremony highlighting their skills and enthusiasm to be the business owners of tomorrow.

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s YouNG project, in conjunction with NGi Ltd, acknowledged seven YouNG ambassadors at Rushcliffe Arena last night (7 February ) graduating with heightened skills to present to future employers.

The programme saw the Council employ the students over 12 months giving them experience of planning events, working on community projects and developing their skills to give them a real experience of the working world.

Young Entrepreneurs of the Erasmus+ funded project, YouNG Goes Euro, also had their achievements recognised, who sold their products on a market in Martin, Slovakia, as part of the project.

Participants of the most recent YouNG market at the West Bridgford Christmas Lights Switch On in December were also credited for their success following running day long market stalls, delivering their own business concepts.

They received awards based on the D2N2 employability framework which included improving the tools and qualities required to appeal to future employers, have high aspirations for themselves and understand the opportunities available to them locally.

Deputy Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council, Cllr Debbie Mason paid tribute to the entrepreneurs of the future by presenting the awards and certificates.

She said: “The evening was a showcase of all the talent, determination and creativity that these young entrepreneurs have to offer.

“We have been delighted to have given the seven ambassadors opportunities with the Council over the last twelve months and give other young people the experience of a YouNG Goes Euro market learning skills and trading in a completely new setting.”
