Acupuncture/ tattooing and semi-permanent tattooing/ ear piercing/ electrolysis
Information about the licensing of acupuncture, tattooing, ear piercing and electrolysis.
To offer skin-piercing treatments including tattooing, semi-permantent tattooing, acupuncture, ear and body piercing. Both the person performing the treatment and the premises must be registered with the local authority.
The cost of the registration is £81 for the premises and £56 for the person.
Am I eligible?
The applicant must provide full details of themselves and their business together with any other information the authority request. Certain professionals are exempt from the registration process.
As from 21st April 2017 new bye-laws will be in force in respect of the above applications, which will now include semi-permanent tattooing.

No provision in legislation, this is a registration process only.

What happens next?
Once your application form has been received the authority we will process it and complete the registration process. Conditions may be attached to your registration and Byelaws for personal treatments are in place governing the treatments.
What if my application is refused
Contact the local authority in the first instance.
We would always advise that in the event of a complaint the first point of contact should be made with the service provider (The Council). If this has not worked and you are located in the UK then contact Consumer Direct or if outside the UK contact the UK European Consumer Centre.
