Christmas in Rushcliffe

On Saturday 2 December the Christmas lights were switched on in West Bridgford. This year’s event was a jam packed day of festive fun for the whole family on both Central Avenue and Gordon Square, featuring entertainment from local singers and bands, a children’s fairground, street theatre entertainers, santa’s grotto and a free mini ice rink.
There was also be a busy market on the Croquet Lawn offering a range of Christmas gifts, crafts, novelties, and festive food. As well as showcasing a great range of independent local businesses guest traders also visited the market from Italy, Slovakia and Poland as part of the YouNG Goes Euro Market, an initiative to support young entrepreneurs develop business skills.
All this action lead up to the highlight of the day, the light switch on at 5pm which wass led by Gem at breakfast’s Jo and Sparky and The Mayor of Rushcliffe, followed by a firework finale.
The switch on celebrations in West Bridgford this year were sponsored by Royston Lund, local estate agents. Gary Lund, Director, said: “We are delighted to be able to support Rushcliffe Borough Council with this year’s West Bridgford’s Christmas Lights Switch On. Having seen the event grow over the years, it is fantastic that we can play a part in this year’s offering. As a local business and an already integral part of the Rushcliffe community, we are keen to play an active role in supporting local events.”
