I am writing to formally request information regarding the total number of trees planted by your authority, either independently or in collaboration with community groups, charities, and/or businesses, for the years 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and the current year (2023). Additionally, it would be greatly appreciated if you could provide the approximate number of trees felled by your authority for each of these years.

Furthermore, I kindly seek information on the total land area currently owned by your authority, ideally expressed in hectares. In particular, I am interested to know what percentage of this land is covered by turf that is presently mown and maintained by your authority.

The public free tree scheme supplies trees too and planted by member of the public

The Parish and Community tree scheme supplies trees to community organisations and parish councils these are partially planted by Parishes / Communities, partially planted by Streetwise (RBC internal environmental works provider)

 

2018/19

Public Free Tree Scheme – 1,386 total trees; by species = 742 Wild Cherry (Prunus avium) and 644  Field Maple (Acer campestre) to 724 addresses

Parish / Community tree Scheme - 149 trees to 21 parishes and communities;

• 10x Alder (Alnus glutinosa);
• 11x Aspen (Populus tremula);
• 3x Callery pear (Pyrus calleryana ‘chanticleer’);
• 18x Crab Apple (Malus sylvestris),
• 20x English Oak (Quercus robur);
• 25x Field Maple (Acer campestre);
• 6x Large Leaved Lime (Tilia platyphyllos);
• 6x Small-leaved Lime (Tilia cordata);
• 1x Bird Cherry (Prunus padus ‘Abertii’);
• 4x Prunus Pandora;
• 45x Wild Cherry (Prunus avium);
• 3x Whitebeam (Sorbus aria);
• 1x white willow (Salix alba)

Total = 1,535

 

2019/20:

Public Free Tree Scheme – 4,161 total trees; by species = 2,016 Crab Apple (Malus sylvestris) and 2,145 Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia) to 2,204 addresses

• 8 x Aspen (Populus tremula);
• 15 x Crab Apple (Malus sylvestris);
• 36x English Oak (Quercus robur);
• 32 x Field Maple (Acer campestre);
• 7 x Large Leaved Lime (Tilia platyphyllos);
• 38 x Small Leaved Lime (Tilia cordata);
• 45 x Wild Cherry (Prunus avium);
• 5 x White Willow (Salix alba)

Total = 4,371

 

2020/21:

Public Free Tree Scheme - 1,929 total trees; by species = 873 Crab Apple and 1,056 Hazel trees to 1003 residents;

Parish / Community tree Scheme - 146 trees and 300 hedging plants (Hornbeam) to 17 parishes and communities.

Community Sourced and Planted - Tree Wardens – planted 50 trees at Greythorne Dyke open Space; Friends of Sharphill Wood (100 shrubs) and Friends of The Hook (27 trees and 60 shrubs)

2021/22:

Public Free Tree Scheme - 1,200 total trees; by species = 579 Wild Cherry (Prunus avium) and 621 Dogwood (Cornus sanguinea) delivered to 631 addresses.

• 2x Alder (Alnus glutinosa);
• 4x Aspen (Populus tremula);
• 2x Bird Cherry (Prunus padus);
• 5x Crab Apple (Malus sylvestris);
• 35x English Oak (Quercus robur);
• 30x Field Maple (Acer campestre);
• 3x Hazel (Corylus avellana);
• 5x Large-leaved lime (Tilia platyphyllos);
• 33x Small-leaved Lime (Tilia cordata);
• 3x White Willow (Salix alba);
• 24x Wild Cherry (Prunus avium);
• 7x Common Whitebeam (Sorbus aria);
• 8x Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus)

Community Sourced and Planted - Friends of Sharphill Wood have planted 600 whips (trees and shrubs)

RBC direct planting - The Property and Estates Department have planted 43 heavy standard Trees and 120 Hawthorn Whips.  Rushcliffe Country Park planted 34 trees comprising of 4 heavy standard trees and 30 whips

2022/23 

Public Free Tree Scheme - 2051 total trees; by species = 1030 Hazel and 1021 Field Maple delivered to 1069 addresses.

Parish / Community tree Scheme - 82 trees to 16 parishes and communities

• 7x Alder (Alnus glutinosa),
• 6x Aspen (Populus tremula),
• 10x Crab Apple (Malus sylvestris),
• 13x English Oak (Quercus robur),
• 13x Field Maple (Acer campestre),
• 2x Hazel (Corylus avellana),
• 7x Large-leaved lime (Tilia platyphyllos),
• 3x Small-leaved Lime (Tilia cordata),
• 10x Wild Cherry (Prunus avium),
• 8x Common Whitebeam (Sorbus aria) and
• 3x Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus)

RBC direct planting - A 507 tree Jubilee Woodland has been planted at The Hook, Lady Bay. Rushcliffe Country Park planted 3 heavy set trees, 10 semi-mature trees and 400 beech hedging plants. The Property and Estates team planted 163 trees.
