Request

I would like to know what percentage of plastic waste your local authority has recycled in the past three years as follows: 2019, 2020, 2021. I would like it to be broken down as follows:

  1. The total amount of plastic waste collected for recycling by your authority, measured in tonnes.
  2. The total amount of collected plastic waste that was then processed in the UK.
  3. The total amount of collected plastic that was processed outside of the UK.
  4. The total amount of exported plastic waste broken down by destination country.
  5. Does the Council have a strategy to recycle plastic waste in the UK instead of exporting?

Response

  1. The total amount of plastic waste collected for recycling by your authority, measured in tonnes.
    • 736.82
  2. The total amount of collected plastic waste that was then processed in the UK.
    • Rushcliffe Borough Council as the Waste Collection Authority (WCA) is not responsible for waste disposal, that is the function of Nottinghamshire County Council who are the Waste Disposal Authority (WDA). Any request for locations where processing takes place should be directed to them.
  3. The total amount of collected plastic that was processed outside of the UK.
    • As above in question 2.
  4. The total amount of exported plastic waste broken down by destination country.
    • Plastic wastes collected for recycling are delivered to the Materials Recovery Facility in Mansfield, once sorted not processed is sent to the Plastic Recovery Facility at Rainham in Kent, there after you will need to ask the WDA for this information.
  5. Does the Council have a strategy to recycle plastic waste in the UK instead of exporting?
    • Rushcliffe Borough Council does have a waste strategy, which isn't specifically for plastics rather it covers all wastes and collection strategies. As  part of the Nottinghamshire Waste Partnership, Rushcliffe Borough Council are in Partnership with the WDA and all WCA's in Nottinghamshire and collects items of plastics which are part of the MRF in-put specification.  Any specific plastics strategies can be accessed from Nottinghamshire County Council.
