Rushcliffe is committed to working together to become a Dementia Friendly community. Our goal is to help residents living with dementia, and their carers, enjoy better, more independent lives for longer.

Rushcliffe Borough Council are working in partnership with Rushcliffe Primary Care Network, South Nottinghamshire Place-Based Partnership (PBP), Nottinghamshire County Council plus many community and voluntary organisations to create more inclusive communities across Rushcliffe.

The Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Dementia Wellbeing Service

The Alzheimer's Society Dementia Wellbeing Service offers free, personalised support and advice over the telephone and at home for anyone affected by dementia.

Nottinghamshire Carers Hub - Support for Carers

Nottinghamshire Carers Hub provide free, confidential and personalised information and support for unpaid carers.

You can also get advice and support at your GP practice through the Carer Champion. Ask in your GP practice for more information. 

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Dementia Friendly Guide

If you're helping someone with dementia, whether it's Alzheimer's, vascular dementia, or another type, this guide is here to assist you.

Hidden Disability Lanyards

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple tool for you to voluntarily share that you have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent. Sunflower lanyards have become a popular way for organisations to spot if someone has a non-visible disability, such as dementia. They’re available at many major retail outlets or to order lanyards online.

Rushcliffe Social Prescribing Dementia Directory

Social prescribers are part of your GP Practice Team and are there to offer practical support and signposting from a non-medical perspective. The team have put together a list of directories for health and social care conditions. Each one is filled with tips, links to websites offering help, and information about services offering support on the issue.

The Dementia Directory is a one-stop-shop for support and advice and provides information on local groups such as memory cafes to community transport as well as respite support for carers. View the Dementia directory here

Green Memory Café at Rushcliffe Country Park 

The Green Memory Café takes place bi-monthly at Rushcliffe Country Park for people living with memory loss and their carers offering a range of nature-based indoor and outdoor activities at the park.

Rushcliffe Big Green Book

The Rushcliffe Big Green Book is directory of nature-based activities and opportunities around Rushcliffe. The book is a way of connecting people to nature-based activities and green groups, projects and schemes in their local community to support with health and wellbeing. Physical copies of the book are accessible in local GP surgeries and libraries.

The Rushcliffe Big Green Book is partnering with this project to encourage service providers to participate in the ‘Dementia Friends’ session, delivered by the Alzheimer’s Society to enable our communities to be more inclusive. 

Rushcliffe Dementia Action Network (RDAN)

Rushcliffe Dementia Action Network is a partnership which brings together local groups and organisations to improve the lives of people living with Dementia and their carers.

Dementia Friends Information Session

Dementia Friends is a light touch information awareness session to reduce stigma and spread knowledge about dementia. Become a Dementia Friend by accessing a free Information Session online or in person through The Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Friends or call 0333 150 3456.

Carer Awareness Training

Gain the Carer Friendly Quality Mark for you and/or your organisation. This can be offered virtually or in person, organised through Nottinghamshire Carers Association or email info@nottinghamshirecarers.co.uk

Recognition

In June 2023, Rushcliffe Primary Care Network’s Rushcliffe Dementia Communication and Support Project was named as the Regional Champion in the ‘The Excellence in Healthcare Award’. To find out more, visit here
