Site acquisition for community centre at Edwalton
Record of Decision Taken by Director Neighbourhoods on 7 March 2025
Details of Decision: Site acquisition for community centre at Edwalton.
Authority for decision
Delegated Authority of the Director – Neighbourhoods under RBC Constitution, Part 3 Scheme of delegation, para 3.32 (b).
Decision
To approve the freehold acquisition of land [and associated car parking] for the purposes of providing a community centre at Land Southwest of Cornelia Grove.
Edwalton Nottinghamshire, for the maximum value of £180,000 (value to be determined at the date of acquisition by the Council’s Surveyor).
Reasons for decision
To ensure that the Council continues to deliver appropriate community infrastructure and the right level of community provision to serve its existing and emerging communities.
Alternative options considered and rejected
The Council could undertake to do nothing further and retain the status quo. This is rejected as it would not meet the identified need of the local residents within the area.
The Council could look to provide a centre offsite within its existing estate and land portfolio however this is rejected as currently there are no sites identifiable, and it would require residents to travel to and from the development.
Conflicts of interest and any dispensation
None identified.
