Homes for Ukraine scheme
The Homes for Ukraine scheme was launched by the Government on 14 March 2022. This scheme is open to people arriving under the Homes for Ukraine scheme who were living in Ukraine prior to 1 January 2022 and also to their immediate family members (for example spouse/partner and children under 18) who may be of other nationalities.
As part of this scheme, the following changes have been introduced:
If Ukrainian guests move in with you
If you live in a property and people who have arrived under the Homes for Ukraine Scheme (and their family) move in with you, they will be disregarded for council tax discounts. This means we will not count your Ukrainian guests when looking at the number of adults living in the property. Therefore, if you were receiving a discount before your Ukrainian guests moved in, you will continue to receive the same level of discount after they have moved in.
Although the level of charge will not change, you still need to inform us if anyone moves in with you.
If people arriving under the Home for Ukraine scheme move into an unoccupied property
A property solely occupied by persons arriving under the Homes for Ukraine scheme will be liable for council tax. However, you will be eligible for a 50% discount.
Please contact us should you need further advice concerning this or use our online form to claim any discount.
