House to House Collections
To carry out house to house collections for charitable purposes you require a licence from the local authority.
House to house collection for or on behalf of charities are regulated by the House to House Collections Act 1939. The Council receives many of these applications and will try to accommodate charity collections however, because of the high number of requests, we will limit the number of collections talking place on any one day. No yearly licences are issued. Please contact us for information on which collection dates are available.

Am I eligible?
An applicant must be a fit and proper person and submit the application on the right form.

What happens next?
Once your application form has been received The Council will ensure the proposed collection date(s) is suitable. The Council receives many such applications and we will try to accommodate charities collections, however because of the high number of requests, we will limit the number of collections talking place on any one day
What if my application is refused?
Please contact the licensing service in the first instance. You have the right of appeal to the Minister for the Cabinet Office. Appeals must be lodged within 14 days of the decision.
Consumer complaints
We would always advise that in the event of a complaint the first point of contact should be made with the service provider (The Council). If this has not worked and you are located in the UK then contact Consumer Direct. If you are outside the UK contact the UK European Consumer Centre.
