Council Leader appeals to new MP to protect Rushcliffe’s green belt

Last updated: 19/7/2024

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s (RBC) Leader has written to the area's new MP in a plea to protect the Borough from development of the green belt in light of possible new housing targets being announced.

Leader Cllr Neil Clarke has contacted James Naish MP on the issue following his election on July 4 and reports housing targets may be reintroduced by central government the Borough Council would need to include in identifying future possible new housing locations.

Talking at an RBC Full Council meeting on Thursday (July 18) Cllr Clarke said: “A pressing issue is our Local Plan, currently being reviewed for eventual adoption by the Council.

“Our residents are very protective of the green belt following the large volume of allocations of housing in the last Local Plan and I look forward to your support as MP in continuing to protect it.

“Congratulations on your election as Member of Parliament for Rushcliffe. I look forward to working with you in the best interests of the people of Rushcliffe and meeting you in the near future.”
