Last updated: 18/12/2024

Shelford Village Hall has undergone a series of improvement works funded by the Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF) to ensure the building remains safe and accessible for community use.

Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) allocated over £15,700 in REPF funding to Shelford Parish Council matched with nearly £3,000 to support the village hall project to help improve the building’s accessibility and enhance its longevity.

Works included a new ramp to improve access to the hall, ridge tile removal and replacement, full building fascias new windows and the replacement of all of the building’s guttering and drainage.

The grant has also enabled the Parish Council to equip the Village Hall with high-speed broadband, which is free to use for anyone booking the hall, to help modernise its facilities.

For further information on hiring the village hall is available on the Shelford Parish Council website.

RBC’s Deputy Leader Cllr Abby Brennan recently joined Shelford Parish Council representatives at the site to find out more about how the vital upgrades have had a positive impact on community use of the facilities.

Cllr Brennan said: “Through REPF we have supported the refurbishment of this village hall which plays a key role as the hub of community activities in the rural village.

“The building required maintenance work to ensure it remained safe and accessible for everyone. New high-speed broadband has also ensured the venue is equipped for today's environment with improved digital connectivity.

“These upgrades are fantastic and have made it even more inviting when events take place here such as the Parish’s recent Christmas Fair, bringing residents and visitors closer together.”

Shelford Parish Councillor Lee Smith added: “This grant has enabled us to carry out essential work to the building, including the fitting of window lintels where there previously weren’t any, replacement of all the old rotten wooden facias, replacement of all the building’s guttering and drainage.

“It’s also allowed us to upgrade the old, cracked access ramp to the hall increasing accessibility to the venue. The completed works have made a huge difference to the aesthetics of the building too, making it more appealing to anyone who uses the facilities

“If anyone is interested in finding out more about our local events that take place at the hall or venue hire, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us by visiting the Shelford Parish Council website.”
