RBC launches free skills courses for residents and volunteers

Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) is launching a range of free courses for residents and volunteers in the Borough to help them learn new skills and support their voluntary work within an organisation.
The courses and workshops start from Monday March 3 and will cover topics supporting the upskilling, safety and knowledge base for residents including:
- Computer and internet basics
- Staying safe online
- Emergency first aid
- CPR and defibrillator training
- Level 2 Award in Food Safety
- Introduction to volunteering
- Recruiting, retaining and managing volunteers
- Funding support
Residents can view the full range of courses and book their place via Eventbrite. Bookings will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.
The sessions are funded by RBC’s allocation of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and will take place across the Borough in Cotgrave, Bingham, West Bridgford, East Leake and Keyworth.
Courses will be delivered by Rushcliffe Community and Voluntary Service (RCVS), ABC Training, Nottinghamshire Fire Service and Funding Consultant James Kirkpatrick.
RBC’s Deputy Leader Cllr Abby Brennan said: “This is a really exciting project and we’re delighted to launch these free courses and workshops funded by UKSPF, helping residents and volunteers to enhance their skills and support their community.
“The courses will take place across the Borough at locations such as Cotgrave Futures, Bingham Arena, East Leake Playing Fields and The Key Health Club, Rushcliffe Arena and more.
“It’s a great opportunity for community group volunteers to develop knowledge and skills in key areas within their organisation. Whether they need support on recruiting volunteers or grant funding applications all the way through to emergency first aid skills and life-saving CPR and defibrillator training.
“There are over 30 courses running starting from Monday March 3, so please do take a look at the courses available on RBC’s Eventbrite page and book your place as soon as possible to avoid disappointment!”
RCVS Volunteer Centre Coordinator & Rushcliffe Befriends Volunteer Coordinator Carolyn Herrington added: “We proudly support volunteering across Rushcliffe through our Volunteer Centre. We know what an amazing difference volunteering makes to the lives of those that volunteer and to the organisations and individuals they support.

“Our Introduction to Volunteering course is designed for anyone who wants to explore the benefits of volunteering, discover opportunities, and understand the positive impact on both individuals and communities.
“Recruiting, Retaining, and Managing Volunteers, supports local community groups and organisations, by providing guidance on recruiting, retaining and effectively managing their Volunteer Teams.
