A Rushcliffe-based children’s bereavement centre has received funding to expand its volunteer team and reduce waiting times for families in need of support.
Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) allocated £5,000 of grant funding from its Community Wellbeing Fund to help maintain free bereavement services. The funding will contribute towards the costs of a specialist bereavement counsellor, available three days a week in Rushcliffe.
The Children’s Bereavement Centre is a Nottinghamshire based organisation that offers free support to bereaved Rushcliffe families by helping children and young people to navigate the grieving process.
Their Rushcliffe base, The Bay Therapy Centre located in Lady Bay, deliver sessions to children aged between three and 18 where they can access free guidance and support in a welcoming and safe environment.
The Centre, which is exploring options around a new venue to offer support in the heart of the Rushcliffe community, work in conjunction with other local mental health support services such as Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, NottAlone and NHS Talking Therapies.
RBC’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Business & Growth Cllr Abby Brennan said: “The Children’s Bereavement Centre provides an invaluable service to the local community by providing an accessible route to support for young people during a really challenging time in their life.
“It’s important to assist organisations such as this in sustaining and growing their services, enabling their dedicated team to deliver the best possible support for Rushcliffe residents.
“We’re delighted to support this project through our Community Wellbeing Fund, helping to reduce waiting times and covering the costs of a bereavement counsellor so that more children and families can access these vital services for free.”
Children’s Bereavement Service Marketing and Fundraising Executive Katie Gibson added: “We are incredibly grateful to Rushcliffe Borough Council for this generous grant from the Community Wellbeing Fund. This funding has enabled us to expand our bereavement team ensuring that more bereaved children and young people receive the timely support they need.
“The ability to provide a specialist bereavement counsellor three days a week in Rushcliffe will make a huge difference in the lives of local families navigating grief. We truly appreciate RBC’s commitment to supporting the emotional well-being of children in our community.”
