Refurbishment works at Keyworth Leisure Centre commence in May

Last updated: 13/3/2025

Refurbishment works at Keyworth Leisure Centre are set to commence in May as the next phase of Rushcliffe Borough Council’s (RBC) ongoing investment in its leisure centres.

It’s part of the authority’s wider £5.2m investment in refurbishments and energy efficient improvements at Cotgrave Leisure Centre and Keyworth Leisure Centre.

Keyworth Leisure Centre will receive essential roof repairs to enhance the site in line with RBC’s Leisure Strategy and will also benefit from internal refurbishment throughout including the pool area.

Works include a new updated layout that will see the existing toilets moved to make way for a larger modern gym.

Residents will be able to enjoy a refreshed reception and seating area to provide a welcoming environment and views to watch children’s swim lessons whilst having a hot or cold drink.

In the changing rooms, lockers and cubicles will be replaced and the floor tiles will be renewed, and the centre will benefit from new doors, lighting and redecoration to complete its new look.

This is a significant scheme of improvement works which will see the centre close for around 10 weeks through the summer months.

The centre is operated by RBC’s leisure provider, Lex Leisure who will be working closely with users to communicate changes and relocate activities to other venues were possible.

The scheme will be delivered by JRD Design and Build with TSA Riley providing RBC with project management and cost management services.

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Wellbeing, ICT and Member Development Cllr Jonathan Wheeler said: “After seeing a fantastic transformation at Cotgrave Leisure Centre, it’s exciting to know that Keyworth is set for a similar upgrade this summer.

“The centre is a valuable resource for the community, promoting fitness and wellbeing, teaching children to swim, and providing a friendly social space.

“I welcome the additional £200k additional investment we have put in for the pool area, following discussions with ward members and reviewing plans for the site, which mean this redevelopment will be even better.

“These new enhancements will help to keep the leisure centre modern and sustainable, serving the community for many years to come.”

TSA Riley Technical Director Remei Mulet Gonzales said: “TSA Riley is proud to provide project management, cost consultancy, and Principal Designer services for Rushcliffe Borough Council’s refurbishment at Cotgrave Leisure Centre.

“We’ve worked with the council to improve Cotgrave Leisure Centre and it is great to now be able to provide the Keyworth community with an improved leisure centre too.”

Adam Groves, Contract Manager for Lex Leisure added: “I am excited for the transformation that these works will bring to Keyworth leisure centre and to welcoming customers old and new into the refurbished centre when we reopen later in the year.

“New members can sign up for a membership for just £41 per month. Residents can find out more on the Lex Leisure website or ask in centre where our staff can provide details of memberships, swimming lessons and activities available.”
