Rushcliffe Borough Council has joined thousands of people across the globe by celebrating Commonwealth Day and raising a Commonwealth flag.

The Mayor of Rushcliffe Cllr Andy Brown raised the flag at the Council’s Rushcliffe Arena yesterday (Monday March 10) as part of The Fly A Flag celebration, recognising the 56 independent countries all working together under this year’s Commonwealth Day theme Together We Thrive, which celebrates the enduring spirit of the Commonwealth family.

The Mayor said: “We are so proud to raise this flag for another year in Rushcliffe in unison with thousands of others across the World to raise awareness of all that we achieve together through Commonwealth connection, friendship and cooperation.

“Each year this provides us with a welcome opportunity to acknowledge the continued aspirations of the Commonwealth, to build on common traditions and uphold shared values of democracy, development and respect for diversity.

“It also is a tribute to the values of peace, democracy and equality shared across the various nations.”
