Cropwell Bishop
Cropwell Bishop was suggested for a Conservation area in 2016, following increased pressure for new development in the village, which raised concerns that these may lead to proposals which might detract from the historical form, layout and character of the village.
The Village Heritage Group in Cropwell Bishop undertook the appraisal in 2018, however, due to the pandemic and resources, the wider public was consulted on the Cropwell Bishop Conservation Area Appraisal and made formal comments in 2022. As a result, the appraisal document was updated to reflect the area’s recent developments and was adopted in January 2023.
Cropwell Bishop is a nucleated village, with the village church and churchyard at its centre, where Fern Road, Nottingham Road and Church Street meet at a point historically known as ‘The Turn’.
Cropwell Bishop today is notable as one of only six places still producing Stilton Cheese from the dairy within the village.
